Seoul Metropolitan Government Expands AI-Based Security System to All Agencies, Applying It to 13,000 PCs

[Financial News] Seoul Metropolitan Government is expanding its artificial intelligence (AI)-based security system to all agencies to prevent damage from cyberattacks from spreading. On the 3rd, Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it had expanded its AI-based Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) system to all city agencies and applied it to more than 13,000 work PCs.
Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) is a security system that analyzes various activities on endpoints such as PCs in real time—including file creation and execution, process activity, and network communications—to detect and block malicious activity and abnormal signs.
Last year, Seoul Metropolitan Government became the first local government in the country to introduce EDR on 6,400 PCs used by its main office. This year, it expanded the system to 31 branch offices, urban infrastructure facilities, the Future Hangang Headquarters, and the Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
When a threat is detected, the system can quickly determine from the early stages of an attack whether an infection has occurred, identify the attack path and scope of impact, and immediately respond by isolating the affected endpoint when necessary. It also reduces unnecessary security alerts, creating an environment in which security monitoring personnel can respond to actual threats more quickly and accurately.
Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to continuously enhance its ability to detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats by linking AI-based security monitoring with EDR. It also intends to gradually raise the security levels of major administrative agencies and urban infrastructure facilities.
The head of Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Digital City Bureau said, "We will expand the AI-based EDR system to major agencies and infrastructure facilities and strengthen the analytical and response capabilities of professional security monitoring personnel to create a digital administrative environment in which citizens can feel secure."
