Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho, the No. 1 Semiconductor Salesman, Heads to Taiwan and Germany

Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho will visit Taiwan and Germany, presenting himself as the city’s No. 1 semiconductor salesman. 
Gumi said a delegation led by Mayor Kim will visit Taiwan and Germany for seven days and four nights, from the 3rd to the 9th.
The visit will focus on promoting local companies’ entry into overseas markets, particularly in semiconductors and trade. It will also expand international exchanges on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Gumi and Taoyuan City’s friendship ties and the 60th anniversary of Korean nurses being dispatched to Germany. In addition, the delegation will draw up a blueprint for Gumi’s future urban development based on Germany’s advanced examples of industrial heritage regeneration.
Mayor Kim emphasized, "This visit to Taiwan and Germany will be an important milestone in strengthening the foundation for global cooperation in advanced industries that will lead the future growth of Gumi and, by extension, the Republic of Korea. It will also provide a solid foothold for local companies seeking to expand overseas."
He added, "We will further strengthen exchanges with international friendship cities and reflect on the historical significance of the Korean nurses dispatched to Germany. By developing Germany’s urban transformation experience into a differentiated model for Gumi’s cultural industrial complex, we will accelerate innovation in industrial spaces."
On the 4th, the delegation plans to visit SEMICON Taiwan 2026 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (TaiNEX). It will tour the booths of six local companies, including Wonik QnC and CMTX, encourage company representatives, and review the latest technologies and global market trends.
The delegation will then visit Taoyuan City, one of Taiwan’s major hubs for advanced industries, aviation and logistics. It will attend a special exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of the two cities’ friendship ties and hold talks with Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng on diversifying exchanges in future industries, culture and the arts, as well as ways to strengthen friendly cooperation.
After completing its Taiwan schedule, the delegation will travel to Germany and attend the 60th Anniversary Commemoration of Korean Nurses Dispatched to Germany on the 5th. Through Mayor Kim’s congratulatory address, it will honor the dedication and contributions of those who supported the Republic of Korea’s economic growth. A commemorative and special performance by the Gumi Saemaeul Women’s Choir will also convey respect and appreciation across six decades.
The delegation will then visit sites of urban transformation in the Rhine-Ruhr region, including Essen, to examine policies and operating methods for using industrial heritage as cultural and tourism resources. The findings will be reflected in the spatial design and overall content planning of Gumi’s cultural industrial complex.
Earlier, on the 2nd, the city held the “2026 Gumi Investment Environment Briefing” at the Air Force Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It shared key municipal policies and the industrial and investment environment, conveyed Gumi’s future vision and commitment to attracting investment, and underscored the significance of “sales-oriented administration that goes directly to the field.”
