Coupang Friend Honored as ‘Wow Hero’ After Extinguishing Vehicle Fire During Delivery

[Financial News] Coupang Logistics Services (CLS) selected Yoo Tae-sun, a Coupang Friend who spotted a vehicle fire during a delivery and prevented casualties through swift initial firefighting, as a Wow Hero and presented him with a commendation and prize money.
According to CLS on the 3rd, CEO Hong Yong-jun presented Yoo with a certificate of commendation and expressed his gratitude at the Wow Hero awards ceremony held on the 26th of last month at Seongdong 1 Camp in Seongdong District, Seoul. CLS selects and rewards employees who demonstrate courage in emergencies, including rescuing people, preventing accidents and responding to disasters, as Wow Heroes.
On the morning of July 23, Yoo noticed smoke coming from a vehicle ahead of him while driving along Gangbyeonbuk-ro toward Hanam. It was a critical situation, as a fire that had started near the engine compartment could have led to casualties and a major traffic accident.
Yoo immediately pulled over and began fighting the fire with a fire extinguisher kept in his delivery vehicle. When the flames spread again, he obtained additional fire extinguishers from nearby drivers and continued battling the fire.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene completely extinguished the blaze, and the two women and two children inside the vehicle all evacuated safely. During the firefighting effort, Yoo noticed that smoke was spreading toward the children and guided them to a safe location. Even after the firefighters arrived, he asked them, "Please check on the children first."
Yoo's swift response prevented the flames from spreading and helped avert casualties and property damage without any further accidents.
Yoo said, "At the time, I wasn't thinking about anything else—I just thought, 'There is a fire, so I need to act quickly.'" He added, "I'm relieved that it did not lead to greater damage." He also said, "If something like this happens again, I will help without hesitation."
