NAVER Cloud to Develop Government’s ‘Cybersecurity-Specialized AI’... Supported with 256 GPUs

[Financial News] The NAVER Cloud consortium has been selected as the operator of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s project to develop a cybersecurity-specialized artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model. The consortium will train the AI on data accumulated in security operations and validate the model in real-world environments, establishing a cybersecurity AI system that can be used to detect and respond to threats.
On the 3rd, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it had selected the NAVER Cloud consortium as the final operator of its project to develop a cybersecurity-specialized AI foundation model.
The project aims to develop an independent cybersecurity model optimized for domestic cyber threats and security environments.
An evaluation committee composed of external experts in AI and cybersecurity comprehensively assessed the technology and development experience of each consortium, as well as the excellence and feasibility of its development strategy, technologies, and objectives, along with its market potential and ripple effects, based on the submitted business plans and presentations.
The NAVER Cloud consortium will receive a total of 256 NVIDIA B200 GPUs for 10 months starting this month.
The NAVER Cloud consortium was praised for its strong development strategy and objectives, including the formation of a large-scale industry-academia-research consortium with outstanding technological capabilities and development experience, as well as the configuration of multiple agents and harnesses.
NAVER Cloud entered the project by forming a joint consortium with LG CNS.
NAVER Cloud will draw on its experience developing and commercializing independent foundation models, as well as building AI models in closed-network and on-premises environments. It plans to apply its experience operating foundation models in closed-network and on-premises environments in highly security-sensitive fields, such as nuclear power and finance, to this project.
It will also utilize its experience monitoring and defending against cyber threats accumulated through operating NAVER services, along with data encryption and isolation technologies based on the Cloud Security Assurance Program (CSAP) for public cloud services.
LG CNS will leverage its specialized cybersecurity organizations, including red teams, blue teams, and an AI security team, as well as its experience in industry-specific AI transformation (AX) projects. It plans to use telecommunications network data specialized by group companies, including LG Uplus, to train the model and conduct validation in real-world security environments to further enhance its functions and performance.
In addition to the two companies, the consortium includes a total of 33 industry, academic, and research institutions, including security companies with attack and detection technologies, universities specializing in AI safety and vulnerabilities, and research and public institutions. The participating organizations will be involved in securing security data, developing and demonstrating the model, and validating it.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to sign an agreement with the selected operator this month and begin developing the cybersecurity-specialized model with GPU support.
