Hyundai Mobis Launches Europe’s First PE System Plant in Slovakia, “Annual Production of 280,000 Units”

[Financial News] Hyundai Mobis is accelerating its push into Europe’s electrification market by launching its first PE system production facility in Slovakia.
Hyundai Mobis said on the 3rd that it held a ceremony on the 2nd (local time) to mark the launch of its new PE system plant in Nováky, Trenčín Region, Slovakia. About 100 people attended, including Kyu-seok Lee, president of Hyundai Mobis; Robert Fico, prime minister of Slovakia; and Denisa Saková, minister of economy.
A PE system is an electrified powertrain that integrates an electric motor, inverter and reducer into a single unit. It is commonly called “the heart of an electric vehicle.”
The Nováky plant is Hyundai Mobis’s first PE system production facility in Europe. After producing battery system assemblies (BSA) in the Czech Republic and Spain, the company has now secured its third electrification production base in Europe. Hyundai Mobis explained that combining battery production in the Czech Republic and Spain with mass production of PE systems in Slovakia will provide a foundation for expanding strategic cooperation with global automakers.
Built on a site of approximately 106,000 square meters—about the size of 15 soccer fields—the new plant has a total floor area of 8,500 square meters. Equipped with stator and inverter production lines, it can produce up to 280,000 PE systems annually. The investment amounts to approximately 250 billion won.
Hyundai Mobis chose Slovakia because of its market potential. The company focused on the growth prospects of Europe’s electric-vehicle market, the world’s second-largest after China. The decision to build another electrification plant in Slovakia, where major automakers such as Kia Corporation, Volkswagen, Stellantis and Volvo Cars are concentrated, is also seen as a strategy to strengthen its order-winning competitiveness and market influence among global customers. Hyundai Mobis has previously set a goal, including through its CEO Investor Day, of increasing the share of sales from global customers to 40% by 2033. The launch of the new plant is part of that effort, the company said.
Kyu-seok Lee said, “To achieve Hyundai Mobis’s future vision, we will make further investments and efforts to establish the Nováky PE system plant as a key electrification hub in Europe.” He added, “Global automakers’ strategic models equipped with Hyundai Mobis PE systems will lead Europe’s electrification market in the future.”
The Nováky plant is intended to serve as an integrated hub supplying key electrification components not only to Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation but also to other global automakers. Hyundai Mobis has its own core technologies and mass-production capabilities across electric-vehicle components, including BSA and PE systems. Based on these capabilities, it operates electrification production bases in Ulsan, Daegu, Chungju and Pyeongtaek in South Korea, as well as in the United States, the Czech Republic, Spain and Indonesia.
