Trump on controversy over changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to 'Trump Strait': "Just something I said"

[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump, who had claimed he would change the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the 'Trump Strait,' clarified that he was not serious about the remark.
According to local media outlets such as the U.S. financial news network CNBC, Trump, who met with reporters at the White House on the 2nd (local time), replied to a question about whether he would really change the name of the strait, "No, no... It was just something I said."
Earlier that day, Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, "Now that the Strait of Hormuz is under U.S. control, should we change its name to the 'Trump Strait'???" He added, "Like the United States, it will be hotter than ever."
On the same day, the White House posted a map of the Strait of Hormuz labeled the Trump Strait on X and wrote that it "sounds appealing."
This is not the first time Trump has referred to the strait by another name. On March 27, during a speech at the Future Investment Initiative Summit in Miami, State of Florida, he referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the "Trump Strait" before correcting himself, saying, "I mean the Strait of Hormuz." Subsequently, New York Post reported, citing government officials, that Trump was considering actually changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to "Trump Strait" or "America Strait." On March 29, he also referred to the area as the "Trump Strait" during an interview with Israel's Now 14, while claiming that the United States had secured control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump is already naming public places in the United States after himself. The Kennedy Center, a cultural and performing arts venue in Washington, D.C., is currently led by a board of directors appointed by Trump. Last December, the center's board changed its name to the "Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts." However, in a ruling last May, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ordered Trump's name removed, stating that the name could not be changed without congressional approval. Officials said that, following the court ruling, Trump's camp was working to add the phrase "Restored and renovated by President Trump" to the center's name.
In addition, in the State of Florida, where Trump's home is located, Palm Beach International Airport was renamed the 'Donald J. Trump Presidential International Airport' as of July 9.
Trump also signed an executive order on January 20 of last year to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the 'Gulf of America.' On the 27th of last month, Trump issued an executive order to rename Lake Ontario, located on the border with Canada, 'Lake of America.' On the day he signed the executive order, he said, "We have bays and lakes. Now what we need is the ocean," adding, "We might have to change the names of the Atlantic or the Pacific. We probably will."
