"Let's Have a Meal; I'll Give You a Gift"—Jeong Chang-seong Was Also Reported by Female International Students Three Years Ago

[Financial News] Jeong Chang-seong, 31, a Chinese university lecturer arrested on suspicion of killing a Chinese female international student who attended his class and mutilating and abandoning her body, was found to have pressured another Chinese female international student three years ago after she rejected his request to date him, telling her that he could prevent her from graduating.

According to MBC on the 2nd, Jeong repeatedly and coercively approached Student A, a Chinese female international student enrolled in the master’s program in the same department, in September 2023, when he was teaching anatomy and rehabilitation therapy at a university in Gyeongsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Jeong expressed interest in A less than a week after meeting her while she was attending his class, but she rejected him. Even afterward, however, he reportedly continued contacting her, saying, "Let's have a meal" and "I'll give you a gift."
When A continued to reject him, Jeong was found to have pressured her through another international student, conveying that he could "delay her graduation or prevent her from graduating."
A stated, "Jeong Chang-seong told me, 'If you have any questions while writing your thesis, come to my house.'"

Eventually, A and other Chinese female international students reported Jeong to the university's international office in October 2023.
At the time, the university issued Jeong a verbal warning through his academic adviser. However, Jeong reportedly continued sending international students messages saying, "If you stay with me, the professor will take better care of you."
Experts analyzed that Jeong's conduct showed characteristics of stalking, in which he attempted to control the other person by using his position.
Meanwhile, Jeong was arrested on the 25th of last month on suspicion of killing B, a 25-year-old Chinese female international student, at his studio apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, in the early hours of the 20th of last month, mutilating her body, and abandoning it in wooded areas and garbage dumps in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, and Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, among other locations.
Investigators found that after the crime, Jeong disguised himself as a woman, traveled by taxi to Dongdaegu Station carrying the victim's mobile phone, turned off the phone nearby, changed back into his own clothes in a restroom, and returned home. The following day, he also falsely reported the victim missing to police himself. Police believe he did so to make it appear that the victim had gone missing on her own and to confuse the investigation.
Police are investigating whether there were any additional victims at the university and plan to refer Jeong to prosecutors after further investigation.
