MOLIT to Implement Special Chuseok Holiday Parcel Delivery Measures for Four Weeks

[Financial News] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will implement a special management period for parcel delivery services during the Chuseok holiday, including the deployment of additional temporary workers to prevent delivery workers from overworking and ensure smooth deliveries.
According to MOLIT on the 3rd, the ministry plans to designate and operate the four-week period from the 7th of this month through the 2nd of next month as the "special management period for parcel delivery services during the Chuseok holiday."
MOLIT expects parcel volumes during this Chuseok holiday period to rise 4.9% from the normal level recorded in July. Specifically, daily volume is projected to increase from 18.4 million boxes to 19.3 million boxes.
Accordingly, major parcel delivery companies plan to deploy approximately 5,500 additional workers to handle the increased volume, including 1,600 line-haul truck drivers, 1,200 delivery workers, and 2,700 loading, unloading and sorting workers.
Measures to protect the safety of parcel delivery workers will also be implemented. Starting one or two days before the holiday, major parcel delivery companies will limit parcel collection and ensure that workers can rest during the holiday period. In addition, health managers at each branch will check workers daily for any health problems and instruct those showing symptoms to take immediate rest.
MOLIT also conveyed requests to large shippers, including online shopping malls. It asked them to distribute parcel volumes and cooperate with measures such as limits on parcel collection. The ministry also asked local governments and public institutions to distribute volumes through advance orders so that demand for holiday goods does not become concentrated.
A MOLIT official stated, "We will manage the special Chuseok holiday parcel delivery period thoroughly to prevent workers from overworking while ensuring that deliveries proceed smoothly." The official added, "We ask for the public’s understanding even if some items are delayed."
