[Financial News] A YouTuber in his 20s was sentenced to prison for tattooing a Telegram account that sold drugs on his forehead, promoting it, and receiving money in return.
According to News 1 and other outlets on the 2nd, Seo Young-woo, a judge at the Seoul Southern District Court, sentenced A, 29, to two years in prison for violating the Act on the Control of Manufacture of Narcotics, etc., among other charges.
The court also ordered A to forfeit 11,273,310 won.
A was indicted for tattooing and promoting an account that sold drugs, along with the words "Drug King—Telegram inquiries" on his forehead, and receiving money in return.
He was also charged with promoting information about illegal online gambling sites through the internet and other channels.
A was known as a YouTuber who promoted illegal pornography and gambling sites and received donations. He was also reportedly said to have stated during a YouTube broadcast last September, "I received 5 million won for promoting it through this tattoo."
The court noted, "The defendant used his influence as an online broadcaster with more than 12,000 subscribers to post illegal information related to gambling sites and narcotics. The impact was substantial, making his culpability serious, and he also has a prior record of drug use." It explained the sentence, saying, "The means of committing the offenses were unusual, and considering their distinctive and sustained nature, the defendant's culpability cannot be considered minor."
