Woods Reaches Plea Deal After Rollover Crash, Receives Five-Year License Suspension and $1,500 Fine

[Financial News] Tiger Woods, the “golfing great” indicted after causing a vehicle rollover crash, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on the 2nd (local time) under which he accepted a lesser charge in exchange for a reduced sentence.
According to The Associated Press (AP), CNN and other outlets, Woods appeared that day in state court in Martin County, Florida.
Woods was initially indicted on a charge of driving under the influence (DUI), but agreed to plead to the lesser charge of reckless driving.
Woods entered a no-contest plea, meaning that he would accept punishment without admitting guilt or asserting his innocence.
The judge consequently ordered a five-year suspension of Woods’ driver’s license and fined him $1,500 (approximately 2.05 million won).
Earlier, on March 28, Woods was driving on a two-lane road on Jupiter Island, Florida, near his home, when he collided with a pickup truck towing a small trailer while attempting to overtake it. His vehicle overturned in the crash.
Woods took a breathalyzer test at the scene, which came back negative, but he was arrested and detained after refusing to provide a urine sample. He was later released on bail.
According to a sheriff’s office report at the time, authorities found two white opioid pills, used to treat pain, in Woods’ pocket at the crash scene. Opioids are a category of narcotic painkillers.
Woods was subsequently charged with DUI and unlawful refusal to submit to testing, but he had maintained his innocence regarding the DUI charge.
Meanwhile, Woods appeared in court that day with his partner, Vanessa Trump. Vanessa is the former daughter-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump. She married his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., in 2005 and divorced him in 2018.
