MCST Uses AI to Search Regulations and Analyze Foreign Media, Selects 13 Outstanding Proposals

[Financial News] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) has selected 13 cases and ideas for innovation in cultural administration using artificial intelligence (AI). The proposals apply AI to administrative tasks involving large volumes of data and repetitive work, ranging from regulation searches to collection management and foreign media analysis.
According to MCST on the 3rd, the “AI Utilization Contest for Innovation in Cultural Administration” was held from May 18 to July 12 for all employees of the ministry headquarters and affiliated institutions. A total of 65 entries were submitted, with one grand prize, two excellence awards and 10 encouragement awards selected.
The grand prize went to the “MCST Multi-Persona Work Assistant GPTs.” Regulations and manuals related to the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, national subsidies, official duties and service, budgets and travel expenses were built into AI assistants by field. The system was designed to provide the relevant legal and guideline provisions in response to queries. MCST recognized its potential to reduce the time required for searches and interpretation to just a few seconds.
The excellence awards went to the National Hangeul Museum’s “Museum and Art Museum Collection Registration Statement Auto-Generator” and “Big-Data Analysis of Foreign Media Reports Using AI.” The auto-generator creates customized registration statements for each institution when files from the Cultural Heritage Standard Management System are uploaded to an AI tool. For the foreign media analysis, AI examined approximately 65,000 Korea-related articles from 67 major foreign media outlets in 19 countries over a two-week period. It grouped similar articles and analyzed major coverage topics and changes in reporting tone by country and period.
At the “Minister-Staff Dialogue” on the 3rd, MCST will hold an awards ceremony and presentations and demonstrations of the winners’ outstanding proposals. It will also support the implementation of the proposals in the field. Minister Choi Hwi-young said, “An organizational culture in which artificial intelligence is skillfully used and readily embraced must take root first in the field of cultural administration.”
