"I Collapsed While Running Laps at 10 p.m."...Announcer Park Jae-hong Describes Cerebral Infarction Incident [Health Talk]

[Financial News] Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) announcer Park Jae-hong said he was diagnosed with a cerebral infarction after collapsing while exercising and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. He reported that his language ability, memory, and sensation on both sides of his body have recovered, and that he is now working to regain his motor functions.
Park Jae-hong said on his social media account on the 1st that he collapsed while exercising alone on the track at Gyodae sports field at around 10 p.m. on August 22. He said his family called 119, and he was taken to an emergency room about an hour later, where he was diagnosed with a cerebral infarction after undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Park Jae-hong explained, "The medical staff’s assessment that night was more serious than I had expected," adding that his blood pressure, electrocardiogram, and body temperature were checked every three to four hours. He also underwent tests in which he was asked his name, the date, and his location.
He said his condition has improved. "Thankfully, thanks to the dedicated treatment I received from the medical staff at Samsung Medical Center, my language ability, memory, and sensation on both sides of my body have now recovered 100%. I am currently undergoing rehabilitation to regain my motor functions," he said.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s National Health Information Portal, a stroke is a condition in which the brain is damaged when a blood vessel supplying it becomes blocked or ruptures, causing physical disabilities. A blocked blood vessel causes an ischemic stroke, while a ruptured blood vessel causes a hemorrhagic stroke.
Symptoms suggesting a stroke often appear suddenly. Typical signs include weakness in one side of the face, arm, or leg; slurred speech; difficulty understanding what others are saying; loss of vision in one eye or double vision; sudden dizziness and balance problems; and a severe headache unlike any previously experienced.
Not everyone who collapses while exercising has suffered a stroke. There can be various causes, including dehydration, low blood sugar, heart disease, and hyperventilation. However, if sudden paralysis, speech difficulties, vision problems, or severe dizziness occur, people should call 119 immediately rather than waiting to see whether they recover on their own.


The National Health Information Portal explains that time is critical when a stroke occurs. The longer blood flow to the brain is interrupted, the more difficult recovery can become, while the risk of complications may also increase. Treatment for acute ischemic stroke focuses on reopening the blocked blood vessel to reduce brain damage.
Even if symptoms improve temporarily, it is difficult to assume the danger has passed. The portal advises seeking medical attention immediately because the risk of recurrence is high even when stroke symptoms improve on their own within minutes or hours. Actions such as pricking a finger, massaging the arms or legs, or giving the person water or medication can delay treatment.
After the acute phase, rehabilitation continues to reduce lasting effects. According to health information from Asan Medical Center, stroke rehabilitation involves early assessments of not only motor paralysis but also cognitive, visual, and language functions, as well as swallowing disorders, and is tailored to the patient’s condition. It is also important to begin rehabilitation once the patient is neurologically stable after a stroke to prevent early complications.

Meanwhile, Park Jae-hong has hosted the CBS radio current-affairs program 'Park Jae-hong’s Hanpan Seungbu.' He said he disclosed his health condition to prevent speculation about his prolonged absence, adding that his return date may be adjusted based on the medical staff’s recommendations and the production team’s decision.
