Endangered Korean Terrapins Confirmed to Inhabit Galti Pond at Ulsan Grand Park in the Heart of the City

【Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Su-sang】The Korean terrapin, designated Natural Monument No. 453 and classified as Class II endangered wildlife, has been confirmed to inhabit the area around Galti Pond at Ulsan Grand Park, an urban park.
According to the Ulsan Facilities Corporation on the 2nd, the Korean terrapin’s presence was confirmed in a survey conducted early this week to assess biodiversity at Ulsan Grand Park and identify new ecological resources.
After discovering the Korean terrapin, the survey team sought advice from the National Institute of Ecology and the Korean Terrapin Conservation Association to determine whether it had hybridized with introduced turtle species. The animal was determined not to be a hybrid with an introduced species.
The survey also found that the area around Galti Pond is home to a variety of species, including Korean terrapins, dark sleepers, crucian carp and freshwater shrimp.
An official from the corporation said, "Confirming the presence of Korean terrapins is a meaningful example of the biodiversity value of Ulsan Grand Park, a large-scale ecological park in the heart of the city."
Meanwhile, anyone who captures a Korean terrapin without permission may be punished under relevant laws and regulations.
