MATRAC Chairman Kim Yong-seok Inspects Preparations for Jeonju BRT Opening

[Financial News] Kim Yong-seok, chairman of the Metropolitan Area Transport Commission (MATRAC) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), visited the site of the bus rapid transit (BRT) project underway in Jeonju to assess conditions on the ground.
On the 2nd, Kim visited the Girin-daero BRT project site in Jeonju, Jeonbuk State, to review its progress and hear the views of relevant agencies.
The project connects approximately 9.5 kilometers between Yeo-ui Plaza Intersection and Jeonju Hanok Village. It has a total budget of KRW 44.8 billion. Construction began in September last year, and completion is scheduled for the end of this year. Full-scale service is expected to begin in January next year.
Kim inspected key facilities, including BRT-only lanes and stops. He also personally reviewed the facilities required for the opening and the preparations for operations.
In particular, he focused on traffic safety measures and the bus operating system to ensure that residents can use the BRT safely and conveniently after its opening.
Kim said, "The Girin-daero BRT is a key transportation project that connects Jeonju's major living areas and improves residents' access to public transportation." He added, "MATRAC will actively cooperate with relevant agencies to ensure that the Jeonju Girin-daero BRT opens successfully and operates stably."
Meanwhile, Jeonju plans to pursue two additional BRT projects under its second comprehensive plan starting in earnest next July: the Baekje-daero BRT, which will connect Jeonju Station with the area in front of Jisije Ecological Park over 9.6 kilometers, and the Songcheon Jungang-ro BRT, which will connect Eco City and Hyocheon District over 9.5 kilometers.
