Two Koreans kidnapped by a Haitian gang released after a month

[Financial News] Two South Korean nationals who were kidnapped by a gang in Haiti, Central America, have both been released after a month. Their health is good.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on the 2nd, two South Korean men were kidnapped by a local gang in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, on July 31 (local time). One was released on the 18th of last month, and the other was safely released the day before.
At the time of the abduction, they were under the protection of local police, but it was reported that one of the officers providing security was killed when gunfire broke out.
Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) designated Haiti as a "travel ban" country in May 2024 due to the country being in a de facto state of anarchy caused by gang violence. There are approximately 40 South Koreans currently residing in Haiti. The kidnapping victims had been staying in Haiti under the government's "exceptional passport use permission" for business purposes.
