[Financial News] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the opening ceremony of '2026 Kiaf SEOUL and Frieze Seoul' at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on the 2nd, celebrating the start of the event with prominent figures from the domestic and international art communities. Kiaf SEOUL, the largest art fair in South Korea, was launched in 2002 and marks its 25th edition this year. A total of 175 galleries from 18 countries will participate in the fair, which runs from the 2nd through the 6th.
Frieze Seoul, a world-renowned art fair, has been held alongside Kiaf SEOUL since 2022. This year's event, running from the 2nd through the 5th, features more than 130 galleries from 30 countries and regions.
Oh said, "Alongside Kiaf SEOUL and Frieze Seoul, a variety of events—including the Seoul Sculpture Festival, Design Miami Seoul, and Seoul Light DDP—are taking place, welcoming citizens throughout Seoul as if the city were an 'open-air museum.' I hope Kiaf SEOUL and Frieze Seoul will go beyond being marketplaces for buying and selling artworks, lead the global art scene, and further elevate Seoul's standing as a city of culture and the arts."
Before the opening event, Oh also exchanged views with Simon Fox, Frieze CEO, on the continued development of Frieze Seoul and long-term cooperation plans with Seoul.
