Hongcheon Art Museum’s ‘Under the Sea’ Exhibition Surpasses 20,000 Visitors; Runs Through September 6

【Financial News Hongcheon = Kim Ki-seop】Hongcheon Art Museum’s summer special exhibition ‘UNDER THE SEA: Under the Sea’ has surpassed 20,000 cumulative visitors and continues to draw strong interest.
According to Hongcheon Art Museum on September 2, the exhibition, which opened on June 20, had recorded 21,815 cumulative visitors as of August 30. Children and families flocked to the exhibition during summer vacation and the holiday season, while more than 800 people visited on some weekend days, demonstrating its strong appeal.
The exhibition was designed to present a new direction for contemporary art by combining kinetic art with immersive media art. Videos of the deep sea and marine ecosystems cover the entire walls, while wave-like lighting and sound spread across the floor, transforming the museum into a vast underwater space. Moving works by artists Choi Moon-seok and Park Jong-young add to the experience, making visitors feel as though they are swimming underwater alongside marine life.
Following last summer’s special exhibition ‘Mungge Mungge,’ the museum has attracted more than 20,000 visitors for two consecutive years. This has led to assessments that Hongcheon Art Museum’s immersive and experiential exhibitions are becoming a signature summer cultural and artistic attraction in the region. The exhibition will be on view in the special exhibition gallery of the new building at Hongcheon Art Museum through September 6, making this the final opportunity to experience its underwater world before it closes.
A Hongcheon Art Museum official said, "The 20,000 visitors have shown that there is sufficient interest in and demand for high-quality contemporary art and new forms of exhibitions even in the region." The official added, "We will continue to offer new cultural and artistic experiences through differentiated special exhibitions that combine various genres, including kinetic art and media art."
