Gwangju University to Hold 5th National High School Web Novel Contest; Entries Accepted from October 19 to December 4

【Financial News Jeonnam-Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】Gwangju University’s Department of Creative Writing will hold the 5th National High School Web Novel Contest to discover creative talent in the web novel field and provide high school students with practical writing experience and opportunities to present their work, the university said on the 2nd.
 According to Gwangju University, the Department of Creative Writing was the first in the country to introduce genre literature into its regular curriculum and now provides specialized creative-writing education.
 In particular, students’ works are leading to actual publication and entry into the content industry. Enrise, a web novel content production company, has agreed to sign works by Kim Si-woo, a graduate student in the Department of Creative Writing, and undergraduate student Jeong Hye-won. Bbul Media, a publishing house specializing in genre literature, is also reviewing manuscripts by students in the department.
 The contest is accepting web novel submissions featuring fresh ideas and original stories, with no restrictions on genre, including fantasy, romance, martial arts, and science fiction.
 Entries will be accepted from October 19 through December 4 via the official email address of Gwangju University’s Department of Creative Writing.
 Applicants must submit a synopsis of at least 5,000 characters covering the full plot, along with a serialized manuscript covering one to three installments.
 Ahn Jeom-ok, head of the Department of Creative Writing, said, "Web novels are an important field in which new stories and imagination expand into the content industry. I hope this contest will give high school students an opportunity to freely showcase their own creative worlds and grow into future writers."
 Meanwhile, Gwangju University’s Department of Creative Writing plans to announce the winning entries on December 21.
 Winners will receive scholarships and prizes. The grand prize winner will receive the Gwangju University President’s Award, and winners who enroll in Gwangju University’s Department of Creative Writing will receive scholarships for two years. The first and second runners-up will each receive scholarships for one year.
 The university will also award prizes worth a total of 3 million won, including 1 million won for the grand prize and 500,000 won each for the first and second runners-up. It will also support opportunities to turn winning works into content through publication and web novel serialization.
