Community Chest of Korea Provides $700,000 in Emergency Aid for Victims of Devastating Nepal Floods

[Financial News] The Community Chest of Korea is launching emergency relief efforts to help residents affected by devastating floods in Nepal.
The Community Chest of Korea said on the 2nd that it will provide $700,000 (approximately 960 million won) in emergency aid through the International Development Cooperation Civil Society Council (KCOC).
Large-scale flooding occurred on the 26th of last month in Nepal’s Himalayan mountain region and along the border between China and Tibet. According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), at least 1,050 people had died in Nepal alone as of 6 p.m. local time on the 1st. The number of people missing across Nepal and Tibet exceeded 4,000, including more than 630 people associated with hydropower plants. Nine South Korean nationals staying in the area on behalf of Doosan Enerbility and Korea South-East Power are also out of contact.
The Community Chest of Korea will focus its emergency relief efforts on food and nutritional support, personal hygiene supplies, clothing and blankets, and drinking water. It also plans to continue relief activities tailored to local conditions, taking into account the scale of the damage and the region’s capacity to respond.
Yoon Yeo-jun, chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, said, "I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Nepal who have lost their families and homes to the massive floods. We will do our utmost to provide the emergency relief and humanitarian assistance needed on the ground so that those affected can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
The Community Chest of Korea also provided $700,000 in emergency aid after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. It has supported relief and recovery efforts for victims of major disasters overseas.
