Toulouse-Lautrec and Suzanne Valadon Exhibition to Open at Sejong Museum of Art on November 7

[Financial News] An exhibition featuring works by Toulouse-Lautrec and Suzanne Valadon, who were active in Paris’s Montmartre in the late 19th century, will be held at Sejong Museum of Art at Sejong Center in Seoul this November.
Gaudium Associates said on the 4th that “Toulouse-Lautrec & Suzanne Valadon: Artists of Montmartre,” an exhibition commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, will run from November 7 to February 9 next year.
Gaudium Associates also unveiled two official posters featuring Toulouse-Lautrec’s “Madame Poupoule at Her Toilette” (1898) and Valadon’s “Acrobatics” (1916). The posters highlight the exhibition’s two central themes by presenting a work representative of Toulouse-Lautrec’s later years and another that encapsulates Valadon’s life, respectively.
“Madame Poupoule at Her Toilette” was painted three years before Toulouse-Lautrec’s premature death. Unlike his earlier style, which vividly captured cabaret stars, the work conveys the subject’s inner loneliness and sadness through restrained brushwork. “Acrobatics” is a representative work expressing Valadon’s life journey—from acrobat and model to painter—through bold colors and composition.
The exhibition will feature more than 110 works by 31 artists, including Jules Chéret and Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen. It will present oil paintings from the collection of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum in Albi, France, for the first time in Korea, along with numerous early drawings, prints, and works produced using the essence technique.
Visitors will also see works by Valadon, who is receiving her first major showcase in Korea, as well as landscapes from her son Maurice Utrillo’s “White Period.” In addition to Toulouse-Lautrec’s artistic world, the exhibition introduces Valadon and Utrillo, offering a multifaceted look at the art history of Montmartre during the Belle Époque.
Exhibition tickets will be sold at a 50% discount on Naver and Ticketlink for one day on the 4th. Starting on the 5th, early-bird tickets with a 40% discount will be available through KakaoTalk, Naver, and Ticketlink.
