[Financial News] Jang Min-young, president of Industrial Bank of Korea, said the bank had "received absolutely no communication from the government" regarding the relocation of state-run banks to regional areas.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting on the pilot operation of a small-business-specific credit evaluation system (SCB) held at Industrial Bank of Korea’s Gwanghwamun Branch in Jongno District, Seoul, on the 2nd, Jang responded to a question about employees’ growing concerns over the relocation, saying, "The government has put that matter on hold, so it is difficult for us to comment."
When asked whether the government had requested that the bank formulate a plan or state its position regarding the relocation, Jang replied, "There was absolutely no such request."
Jang also avoided giving a direct answer about the large-scale financial incident involving Industrial Bank of Korea’s Chinese subsidiary, which was disclosed in July. The amount that the subsidiary is reportedly required to recover from Juzhi, a loan-matching platform, is at least 83.3 billion won.
Jang said, "We need to wait for the investigation results," adding, "It is not a situation in which I can discuss the matter because the facts—who did what and how it happened—are not yet clear."
