[Financial News]"We hope to contribute to the continued development of the port industry through professional legal and policy support and practical training tailored to on-site needs." Yulchon LLC and the Korea Port Association are establishing a cooperative framework to address the legal risks facing the port industry, ranging from port development to serious accidents, labor issues, construction contracts and claims. As the industry's business scope expands to include redevelopment, hinterland complexes and urban development, the two organizations plan to strengthen professional training and legal and policy support in areas with strong demand in the field.
Yulchon LLC and the Korea Port Association announced on the 2nd that they had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the sustainable development of the port industry and strengthen member companies' capacity to respond to legal and policy issues.
Ports have recently expanded beyond their traditional role as infrastructure supporting national logistics and imports and exports, taking on broader functions and business areas such as port redevelopment, hinterland complex development, and urban and mixed-use development. As business structures become more complex, the need to manage legal and institutional risks that may arise throughout development, construction and operations in advance is also growing.
Port development and construction projects typically span a long period, from planning and permitting through design, construction and operations. They also involve numerous stakeholders, including public institutions, construction companies, engineering firms and operators. Since different legal issues involving contracts, permits and disputes may arise at each stage, industry officials say systematic responses from the early stages are essential.
In response to these industry changes, Yulchon LLC and the Korea Port Association agreed to share legal and policy information related to port development, redevelopment and urban development, while providing professional training in serious accidents, industrial safety, labor and human resources. They will also offer training and information on construction contracts, construction costs and construction claims, and organize joint seminars and policy discussions on key issues facing the port industry.
The organizations will also establish a support system to identify and address the legal and institutional difficulties encountered by association members at project sites.
The two organizations will explore ways to connect institutional issues raised in the field with policy discussions. They will share industry issues and difficulties identified through training and seminars. Where necessary, they plan to gradually expand their cooperation by jointly discussing institutional improvements and policy initiatives for the development of the port industry.
Through the agreement, Yulchon LLC plans to connect its practical legal experience in real estate and construction with the port industry.
Kim Nam-ho, head of Yulchon's Real Estate and Construction Group, said, "As the port industry's business scope expands beyond port development and construction to include hinterland complexes, logistics and operations, the related legal and institutional framework is also becoming increasingly complex. Through this MOU, we will establish a close cooperative framework with the Korea Port Association."
