Unmanned drones inspect Dongbu Corporation construction sites

[Financial News] Dongbu Corporation has jointly developed smart safety management functions in collaboration with Meisa, a company specializing in spatial artificial intelligence (AI). The company plans to accelerate the digital transformation of safety management at construction sites by directly applying these functions to the field. Dongbu Corporation announced on the 2nd that it has applied the smart safety management functions to the new construction site of the Ottogi Logistics Service Baegam Logistics Center, Section 3-1 of the Jinhae New Port Dredged Soil Disposal Site, and the Namyangju Wangsuk A-25BL private-participation public housing site.
It is characterized by the customized advancement of unmanned automated drone stations and AI-based platform functions, reflecting the specific working environment and safety management characteristics of each site.
An unmanned automated drone station is a system in which drones automatically take off, land, fly, and film along pre-set routes without the need for a dedicated operator to be present on-site. It enables periodic inspections of large sites or hard-to-reach areas.
Videos and photos captured by drones are analyzed and processed on a dedicated platform and utilized for safety management. For example, it supports a rapid response in the event of a dangerous situation by providing alerts if unrelated personnel approach heavy equipment work areas and by monitoring the locations of high-risk workers and vulnerable employees in real time.
Safety management functions utilizing AI vision technology have also been applied. The AI automatically recognizes and analyzes whether workers are wearing safety helmets and fluorescent vests, as well as the fastening status of safety belts, providing this information to on-site managers to systematize the management of protective equipment usage.
Accumulated field data is utilized for process management and safety training. Based on data captured daily, the site is rendered in 3D to visualize the status of the process, and this data is used to check for potential work interference and risk factors between subcontractors in advance during process meetings.
Starting with this pilot introduction, Dongbu Corporation plans to make the system mandatory at construction sites with a project cost of over 220 billion won from next year and gradually expand it to all sites by 2029. A Dongbu Corporation official stated, "We will strengthen site monitoring and data-based safety management to create smart construction sites where workers can work with greater peace of mind."
