KT Expands Base Stations to Prevent Communications Blackout During Fireworks Festival

[Financial News] KT will increase base station capacity and deploy additional mobile base stations around Yeouido Hangang Park, where a fireworks festival will be held on the 5th. The company plans to respond to the surge in communications demand expected as large crowds gather.
KT announced on the 2nd that it would implement special communications measures to provide stable services for visitors to the fireworks festival.
Ahead of the event, KT inspected communications quality along routes around Yeouido Hangang Park and nearby subway stations, and expanded the capacity of surrounding base stations in advance. It also deployed additional mobile base stations to secure network capacity.
On the day of the event, KT plans to operate a 24-hour response system centered on its comprehensive control room. The company will increase the number of on-site and support personnel compared with normal operations to respond quickly if unusual situations arise.
KT plans to use 5G network slicing technology to enable the organizers to receive CCTV footage from across the event venue without congestion. 5G network slicing divides a single 5G network into multiple networks to provide stable communications quality for specific services.
Jung Sun-il, executive director and head of the Network Operations Innovation Division at KT's Network Business Unit, said, "The fireworks festival is a representative event where massive traffic is concentrated within a short period. We will do everything possible in operating the network so that visitors can smoothly share the emotions they experienced with their families and friends."
