【Financial News, Andong = Reporter Kim Jang-wook】Gyeongsangbuk-do is making every effort to attract more Chinese tourists. To that end, it will promote tourism in the province in cooperation with China’s Liaoning TV and Jiangsu TV.
According to the provincial government, the two broadcasters will visit Gyeongju, Mungyeong, Andong and other areas of Gyeongsangbuk-do for four days, from August 31 to September 3. They plan to report on the region’s historical and cultural heritage, cuisine and experiential tourism resources, then produce special programs to introduce them to Chinese audiences.
In particular, during an interview at the provincial government office on September 3, Governor Lee Cheol-woo introduced Gyeongsangbuk-do’s historical and cultural value and tourism competitiveness. He also conveyed his hopes for the successful hosting of this year’s APEC Summit in Shenzhen, China, in November, following the successful APEC Summit held in Gyeongju last year.
Governor Lee emphasized, "The successful hosting of last year’s APEC Summit drew the world’s attention to Gyeongsangbuk-do and served as an important opportunity to introduce the province to China in a new light. We will widely showcase Gyeongsangbuk-do to Chinese viewers as a place where Korea’s history and culture, as well as the roots of K-culture, remain alive. We will also encourage more Chinese tourists to visit in person and experience the province’s unique value."
He added, "If Gyeongju captured the world’s attention in 2025, it is now Shenzhen’s turn to embrace the world and continue the new history of APEC. I sincerely hope for the successful hosting of the 2026 Shenzhen APEC, and I expect the ties forged through APEC to serve as an opportunity to further expand tourism and cultural exchanges between Gyeongsangbuk-do and China."
Liaoning TV is a broadcaster based in northeastern China, while Jiangsu TV is based in the eastern region. The completed programs are scheduled to air in China during prime time, from 7 to 9 p.m., in October. Last year, promotional efforts through Hebei TV and Hunan Television introduced Gyeongsangbuk-do tourism to a total of 26.39 million people.
Meanwhile, the province has pursued marketing initiatives such as roadshows and special promotions on Trip.com to target the Chinese market, which ranked first among sources of inbound tourists in 2025, with 5.48 million visitors according to the Tourism Knowledge and Information System. It plans to continue its follow-up marketing efforts by participating in the International Gyeongbuk Tourism Industry Exchange Fair in October and the Korea Local Travel Festa in Shenzhen, China, in November.
