Gaon Cable Expands Low-Friction Cables to AI Data Centers, Targeting the Power Infrastructure Market

[Financial News] Gaon Cable is accelerating its push into the AI power infrastructure market by expanding the application of low-friction distribution cables to artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs). The company plans to extend low-friction cable technology validated at semiconductor plants to AIDCs and broaden its related product lineup from busducts to low- and medium-voltage cables.
Gaon Cable announced on the 2nd that it would expand the application of low-friction cables to AIDCs. By improving the outer-jacket material, the cables reduce installation friction by about 30% compared with conventional products. This can extend installation distances by up to 45% while reducing labor requirements and construction costs.\u00a0
Busduct applications are expanding at AIDCs to support large-scale power supplies. However, distribution cables are also used in some sections depending on design and construction conditions. The company expects low-friction cables to improve constructability and cost efficiency when building AIDC power infrastructure.\u00a0
After supplying low-friction cables to a semiconductor plant in North America last year, Gaon Cable has expanded their application to AIDCs. The move strengthens its product lineup by applying low-friction technology validated in semiconductor plants to AIDCs as well.\u00a0
Low-friction distribution cables are products manufactured and supplied globally by only a small number of companies in North America and Europe. Gaon Cable has completed patent registration for the core material technology.
Based on LS Cable’s technological competitiveness and the local business capabilities of its U.S. subsidiary, LSCUS, Gaon Cable supplies busducts for AIDCs to U.S. big tech companies and AI cloud providers. It has also supplied low-voltage (LV) cables to power plants serving AIDCs operated by U.S. big tech companies, while LSCUS is expanding supplies of medium-voltage (MV) cables connecting substations with AIDC campuses. Through these efforts, the company is broadening its AIDC power infrastructure portfolio from busducts to LV and MV cables.
Jeong Hyun, CEO of Gaon Cable, said, "The importance of construction efficiency is growing at large-scale industrial facilities, including AI data centers, semiconductor plants and battery factories." He added, "We will expand in global markets by focusing on differentiated specialty distribution products, including integrated conduit (ACF) cables, low-friction cables and cable bus systems."\u00a0
