[Financial News]  Mister Blue is expanding the monetization of its intellectual property (IP) by introducing “Chungpung,” a signature martial-arts character created by artist Hwang Seong, into its games. The company is seeking to build a cross-selling model that connects content and games by bringing readers acquired through its webtoons and web novels into games operated by its subsidiary.
According to Mister Blue on the 2nd, Chungpung has been added to “EOS RED” and “EOS BLACK,” which are operated by its subsidiary Blue Potion Games, as a spirit-form skin and pet content.
Chungpung is a character representing artist Hwang Seong’s martial-arts works. The key to this collaboration is that Mister Blue has connected the martial-arts IP it accumulated over many years to in-game content, rather than pursuing a simple character collaboration. This can simultaneously encourage webtoon readers to enter the games and game users to consume the original content, enabling the group to repeatedly leverage its IP internally.
Mister Blue, in particular, owns its own webtoon and web-novel platform, a content provider (CP), and a game development and publishing company. After strengthening its web-novel capabilities through its merger with Days Entertainment, the company is also pursuing the expansion of its content IP into games through Blue Potion Games. This is strengthening a value chain that runs from content acquisition to platform distribution and game commercialization.
An industry official said, "The competitiveness of a webtoon IP business depends not only on the success of the work itself, but also on how extensively the fan base it has secured can be expanded into other content and services." The official added, "Connecting IP to areas such as games, which can increase revenue per user, is meaningful because it can raise the lifetime value of existing works."
The industry identified whether the model confirmed through Chungpung can be expanded to other IP owned by the company as the key issue going forward. If popular webtoon and web-novel IPs are continuously converted into game content beyond individual character collaborations, the businesses could evolve from being operated separately into a structure that connects users and revenue on both sides.
Meanwhile, Mister Blue resumed stock trading on the same day after completing its reverse stock split. Following the five-for-one reverse stock split, the par value changed from 100 won to 500 won per share, while the total number of issued shares fell to 16,615,956. The company plans to establish a foundation for enhancing corporate value by maintaining an appropriate number of shares in circulation and improving trading stability.
A company official emphasized, "Using the Chungpung IP collaboration as an opportunity, we will strengthen the conversion of platform readers into game users and business synergies among our subsidiaries." The official added, "We will continue expanding our IP monetization model linking webtoons and web novels with games."
