Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City to Identify and Support Outstanding Skilled Workers at Manufacturing Companies in Gwangju

 Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City (Gwangju Metropolitan City) will identify and support recipients of the 2026 Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City Skilled Worker Award to honor outstanding skilled workers active at local manufacturing sites.
 Eligible candidates are skilled workers who have been employed for at least 10 years by small and medium-sized manufacturing companies located in the five autonomous districts of the Gwangju area and who have outstanding records of proposals in new technology development or quality management, or have contributed to productivity gains and defect reduction through process improvements.
 Gwangju Metropolitan City plans to accept recommendations and supporting documents from companies and industry councils, then select up to five award recipients through a review committee’s evaluation, including document screening, on-site inspections, and individual presentations. Each selected recipient will receive a skilled worker award plaque and incentives of KRW 500,000 per quarter for three years, totaling KRW 6 million.
 The evaluation will cover four areas: △individual capabilities, △technical creativity, △improvement and innovation activities, and △other activities inside and outside the company. The assessment will comprehensively consider work experience, individual certifications, awards, proposals and improvement achievements, and efforts to foster a positive workplace atmosphere.
 To recommend a candidate, applicants must complete the required forms attached to the "Public Notices and Announcements" section of the Gwangju Metropolitan City website and apply in person or by mail at the Startup Promotion Division of Gwangju City Hall from September 21 through October 2.
 Oh Young-geol, head of the Economic and Startup Bureau of Gwangju Metropolitan City, said, "The purpose of selecting the skilled worker award recipients is to identify and honor skilled workers who quietly fulfill their roles through creative and innovative activities at small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, the foundation of the local economy. We hope that many outstanding skilled workers currently active in the field will take an interest and participate."
