Iran Launches Retaliatory Attacks on U.S. Bases in Jordan and Elsewhere, Claims U.S. Troops Killed

[Financial News] Iran’s military has launched retaliatory attacks targeting U.S. military assets in the Middle East and claimed that many U.S. troops were killed in the attacks. The United States has not commented on the claim.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement on the 1st (local time), saying it had launched retaliatory attacks in response to U.S. attacks that day. The IRGC said, "Our brave warriors have already begun punishing the aggressors in a way that will make them deeply regret their actions," adding, "As the first step, we deployed a new air defense system to shoot down an advanced MQ-9 Reaper drone operated by the U.S. aggressor forces. The cumulative number of aircraft we have brought down has reached 50."
In its statement, the IRGC claimed, "The U.S. military recklessly bombed locations including several civilian facilities along Iran’s southern coast," adding, "However, these attacks will only further strengthen security in the Strait of Hormuz and reinforce our warriors’ determination to suppress foreign forces seeking to intervene in the strait."
In a subsequent statement, the IRGC said it had attacked a U.S. military base in Jordan with ballistic missiles. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported, "Iran’s decisive operation targeting the United States has begun," adding, "Iranian missiles and drones are striking U.S. military bases and key facilities across the region."
The IRGC also claimed in its statement that many U.S. troops were killed in the attacks. The U.S. military has not yet issued a response. According to casualty figures from the U.S. Department of War (Defense), 757 U.S. service members had been confirmed wounded and 18 killed as of the 19th of last month, following the outbreak of the Iran war on February 28.
Earlier, the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), which oversees U.S. operations against Iran, said on X on the 1st, "The U.S. military began strikes against targets of Iran’s IRGC at noon Eastern Time (1 a.m. Korea Standard Time on the 2nd)."
It added, "These attacks are a response to the IRGC’s recent attempts to attack civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. service members deployed in the region (the Middle East)." USCENTCOM also attacked Iranian rocket launchers on the 30th of last month to prevent Iran from laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
