Jeju Hits 32°C in September; Showers of Up to 50 mm Expected Today

【Financial News Jeju = Reporter Yong-bok Jeong】 Despite the arrival of September, hot weather is continuing in Jeju, with daytime temperatures reaching 32°C and tropical nights persisting. Some areas will receive up to 50 mm of showers on September 2. From September 3, rain is expected to continue mainly in areas east of Hallasan, while waves at sea are forecast to gradually rise.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration on September 2, Jeju Island will be mostly cloudy before becoming increasingly overcast in the afternoon, with showers expected in some areas through the evening.
Rainfall is expected to total 5–50 mm. Because showers can vary greatly by location, rainfall amounts may differ significantly over short distances, even within the same area.
The forecast high for the day is 31–32°C. Temperatures are expected to reach 32°C in Jeju and Seogwipo, and 31°C in Seongsan and Gosan.
Although September has begun, nighttime heat is continuing. The lowest temperatures recorded in Jeju Province on September 1 ranged from 25.6°C to 26.7°C. Tropical nights, in which overnight lows remain at or above 25°C, are continuing.
Daytime temperatures are also well above average. The normal high for Jeju Province on this date is 27.7–28.9°C, but the forecast highs are 31–32°C, roughly 3°C higher.
The rain will continue in a different form from September 3. The day will be mostly cloudy, with occasional rain expected from the morning through late evening, mainly in areas east of Hallasan. Rainfall is forecast at 5–20 mm.
On September 4, 5–20 mm of rain is expected in some areas from dawn through the morning, followed by occasional clouds in the afternoon. On September 5, rain may return from late afternoon through late evening, mainly in mountainous areas.
Temperatures will not drop significantly even after the rain. Highs are forecast at 30–31°C on September 3, 29–30°C on September 4, and 28–30°C on September 5. The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration urged residents to take care of their health, warning that hot weather and tropical nights will continue for the time being.
At sea, people should be alert for high waves from September 3. Wave heights in waters off Jeju Island are expected to rise gradually from 0.5–2.0 meters on September 2 to a maximum of 2.5 meters on September 3 and 3.0 meters on September 4.
On September 5, waves in waters off the southern and eastern coasts of Jeju Island are forecast to reach 1.5–4.0 meters. Waves of up to 4.0 meters are also expected in the southern offshore waters of Jeju, so vessels engaged in navigation or fishing should check marine conditions.
The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration urged people to check the latest forecasts for showers, rain, and high waves regularly. It also advised caution against heat-related illnesses during outdoor activities and farm work, as hot weather is expected to continue.
