International oil prices surged around 5% on September 1 (local time), the first day of September.
Amid renewed fighting between the United States and Iran, news that two tankers—one South Korean and one Saudi Arabian—had been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz the previous day heightened concerns.
Brent crude oil, the international benchmark, for November delivery soared 4.60% from the previous session to $94.65 per barrel.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil (WTI), the U.S. benchmark, for October delivery also jumped 5.20% to settle at $90.22 per barrel.
Brent crude oil rose to its highest level since July 24, while WTI reached its highest level since July 23. Over the past two days, they have surged 6% and 8.2%, respectively.
The Financial Times (FT) reported, citing maritime security analysts, that two tankers were attacked the previous night while leaving the Strait of Hormuz: the Senegal Prosperity, operated by South Korea’s Janggeum Maritime (SINOKOR), and Saudi Arabia’s Sidr.
