Iran Says It Has "Launched Retaliatory Operation" Against U.S.

Iran launched retaliatory operations on July 1 local time, targeting U.S. military facilities and other sites in the Middle East.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement that U.S. airstrikes on the southern coast were driven by "desperation" and that it had begun a powerful retaliatory operation. The statement claimed, "We have already begun punishment that will inflict bitter regret on the aggressors," adding, "As the first measure, we deployed a new air defense system to shoot down the U.S. aggressor forces' advanced MQ-9 drone for the 50th time overall."
The General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper is a drone nicknamed the "silent killer" and costs approximately $30 million per unit, or about 41.2 billion won. The claim that 50 of them were shot down appears to be exaggerated.
The IRGC also claimed that the U.S. military had recklessly bombed various locations, including civilian facilities on the southern coast, and that this would instead strengthen the resolve of its fighters.
Tasnim News Agency also reported that Iran's decisive operation targeting the United States had begun, saying that Iranian forces were using missiles and drones to strike U.S. bases and key facilities across the region.
Meanwhile, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X that "the United States began strikes against IRGC targets at noon Eastern Time."
