The possibility has emerged that the leaders of the United States, China and Russia could hold a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, China, this November.
According to Cyprus Mail, Yuri Ushakov, a foreign-policy aide to the Russian Kremlin, said on the first that Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping could hold a trilateral summit there.
In an interview with Russian state broadcaster Vesti, Ushakov was asked about the possibility of a trilateral meeting. He said, "This issue has been discussed," indicating that such a meeting was possible. He added that all three leaders were expected to attend the summit and said, "If everything goes according to plan, all three leaders could meet in one place."
Trump previously met with Xi Jinping on the occasion of the APEC summit held in Gyeongju last October. Reports have suggested that he may attend the Shenzhen summit and seek to hold a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Meanwhile, Ushakov's interview was conducted that day in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The city recently hosted an SCO summit attended by Putin and Xi.
