[Financial News] YBM said on the 1st that it had successfully wrapped up its Practical English Competition, which drew more than 2,000 elementary and middle school students from Incheon and Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
The competition stood out for applying a credible assessment system in the field in partnership with 37 local academies. Elementary school students were evaluated with JET (Junior English Test), while middle school students used TOEIC Bridge as the testing tool. The competition objectively measured practical English skills focused on listening and reading. YBM also provided comprehensive support for the event, including question design, setting evaluation standards, venue operations, grading and score processing.
The competition was held in succession last month at Yonsei University International Campus and Siheung Sorae High School. More than 1,500 students from 25 academies took part in the 27th Incheon Practical English Competition for Elementary and Middle School Students on Aug. 22, and YBM's official assessment tools were introduced for the first time this year. Another 500 students from 12 academies sat for the 24th Siheung Practical English Competition for Elementary and Middle School Students on Aug. 29.
YBM said the event gave students a chance to check their abilities objectively and gain practical experience that will help them prepare for future standardized language tests.
A YBM official said, "It is meaningful that we refined the operating system for local English competitions based on a credible evaluation framework," adding, "We plan to continue expanding the Practical English Competition to other regions in cooperation with local academy associations."
