Hyundai Motor Company's August sales slump... "Domestic sales plunge 40% amid strike fallout"

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Company's sales in August fell sharply. The company sold 288,574 vehicles in South Korea and overseas combined, down 14.2% from the same month last year.
According to Hyundai Motor Company on the 1st, sales by market showed a 41.1% year-on-year plunge in South Korea to 34,333 units, while overseas sales fell 8.5% to 254,241 units.
In the domestic market, sedans sold the most at 10,922 units. The Hyundai Grandeur led the segment with 5,931 units, followed by the Hyundai Sonata with 3,105 and the Hyundai Elantra with 1,462. RV sales came in at 10,810 units, roughly on par with sedans. The Hyundai Santa Fe sold 3,596 units, the Hyundai Palisade 1,812, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 1,372.
Small commercial vehicles sold 6,503 units in total, led by the Hyundai Porter with 4,224 and the Hyundai Staria with 2,184. Medium- and large-sized buses and trucks recorded 1,553 sales. Genesis also contributed to domestic sales, with 4,545 units sold, including the Genesis G80 at 1,460, the Genesis GV70 at 1,406, and the Genesis GV80 at 1,240.
Overseas sales totaled 254,241 units, down 8.5% from a year earlier. The decline was smaller than in the domestic market, but the downward trend continued.
A Hyundai Motor Company official said, "In August, production was disrupted by the strike, and demand from customers waiting for new models also affected sales." The official added, "We will expand our market share based on new models such as The New Grandeur and The All-New Elantra, which were recently launched."
