300 Wonju Citizens Shape the City’s Future Together at 'Ttutmoa' Neighborhood Meeting

[Financial News, Wonju = Kim Gi-seop] About 300 Wonju citizens gathered in one place to help sketch out the city administration for the 9th popularly elected administration.
According to Wonju-si on the 1st, the first Citizens' Sovereignty Neighborhood Meeting, 'Ttutmoa,' was held that day at the Namsangol Culture Center, where full-scale civic communication took place. About 300 citizens of various ages and backgrounds took part, including students, homemakers, office workers, self-employed people, small business owners, cultural and arts workers, professionals, and young farmers. From people born and raised in Wonju to long-term residents, migrants in their fifth year of living in the city, and newcomers who have recently settled there, participants shared views on the city's future.
Participants joined the discussion based on their own experiences and concerns in areas such as jobs, care, transportation, culture, and agriculture. The discussion covered 14 agenda items, and the topics that drew the most applicants — underused land, jobs, revitalizing the old downtown, the cultural industry, and care services — were each split into two groups, bringing the total to 19 discussion groups.
In each group, participants followed the moderator's guidance and wrote down on discussion sheets how the pledges would affect daily life and what would be needed to carry out the policies. They then coordinated differing views and refined the problems that could arise during implementation, along with possible solutions. After the discussions, each group representative presented the main points and key proposals, and the city also conducted a survey on the importance of 9th-term campaign pledges, allowing citizens to choose which pledges should be pursued first for Wonju's development.
Wonju-si plans to combine the citizen opinions gathered this time with the results of the pledge-priority survey and review policy validity, feasibility, budget conditions, and legal and institutional requirements. Proposals that can be implemented will be included in the detailed action plans for the 9th popularly elected administration's pledges and major policies and then made public to residents.
Wonju Mayor Gu Ja-yeol said, "The will gathered by citizens will become a strong foundation for building Wonju's future." He added, "We will carefully review whether the proposed ideas can be reflected in pledges and policies, disclose the results, and create an era of citizen sovereignty in which citizens' voices are reflected in city administration."
