[Financial News] Medical AI specialist JLK is shifting the focus of its brain imaging AI business in Japan from approvals to revenue generation. The company has completed the buildout of its local sales network to connect its seven Japan-approved brain imaging AI solutions with actual adoption at medical institutions.
According to JLK on the 1st, the company has secured five local distribution partners covering major regions in Japan, including Kanto, Kansai, Hokkaido, Tohoku, Chubu, and Shinetsu.
Instead of assigning the entire Japanese market to a single master distributor, JLK has placed specialized distributors with networks at university hospitals and public hospitals in each region. The company is focusing on shortening the time from approval to actual hospital adoption.
Sales in the Tokyo metropolitan area and nationwide will be handled by a medical device specialist affiliated with a global trading company. JLK has also secured distributors with local medical institution networks in Kansai, Hokkaido, and the Chubu-Shinetsu region. It will further strengthen local commercialization and marketing by working with partners specialized in medical AI and software as a medical device (SaMD).
JLK's business in Japan is now entering a phase where it will be judged by actual results. The company has already obtained approvals in Japan for seven brain imaging AI solutions. Going forward, the number of hospital adoptions and the pace of revenue conversion for approved products are expected to become the key indicators of its Japanese business.
Sales will be carried out through both direct sales via the local subsidiary and indirect sales through regional distributors. The strategy is designed to reduce dependence on any single sales channel while expanding contact points from major hospitals to local medical institutions.
Meanwhile, the bio industry says the center of competition in Japan's medical AI market is shifting from securing approvals to actual hospital sales capability and monetization. As global companies enter the market and price competition intensifies, analysts say the key to establishing a foothold will be how quickly approved products can be turned into hospital adoption.
A JLK official said, "By building a regional sales network after securing approvals, we have laid the groundwork to expand actual revenue in Japan," adding, "We will quickly increase the number of adoption cases at medical institutions together with our local partners."
