[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government and Design Council Busan said they will operate a popup store with the marine upcycling brand Resistore at the Busan Brand Shop on Gwangbok-ro in Jung-gu from the 1st to the 31st of next month.
The popup introduces visitors to new design products and artworks made by transforming discarded surfboards into new creations, using surfing in Songjeong, one of Busan's signature marine leisure cultures, as its theme. Resistore is a Busan upcycling brand that produces lifestyle design goods using discarded surfboards, wood, and other materials based on its brand philosophy, which combines recycle, sea, and story.
The popup's title, "From wave to object," conveys the idea that surfboards, which once rode the waves of the sea, are not thrown away after reaching the end of their life but are reborn as new objects. The popup will sell a variety of local design products inspired by Busan and Songjeong's surfing culture, including art objects made from discarded surfboards, Busan city graphic T-shirts, mini surfboard key rings, and Songjeong surf key rings.
Among them, the "discarded surfboard art objects," created in collaboration with local artists, stand out for being reborn as one-of-a-kind works that incorporate Busan's scenery, colors, and the artists' sensibilities. The popup space also reflects Busan's identity by applying the city's marine imagery and urban brand.
In addition, the event will offer hands-on programs for citizens and tourists. These include "Decorating a Mini Surfboard Key Ring," where participants decorate a wooden mini surfboard key ring using acrylic markers and Busan symbols, and "Painting Discarded Surfboards with Citizens," where they can draw directly on surfboards.
Moon Jeong-ju, head of the Future Design Division, said, "This popup is a place where Busan's city brand, marine leisure culture, and local companies' upcycling design are reborn as new Busan content," adding, "We will continue to expand cooperation with local companies and discover city brand content that makes use of Busan's diverse resources."
