Choo Kyung-ho Opposes Reallocation of Future Response Fund Resources

On the 1st, Choo Kyung-ho visited the press room at Daegu City Hall in Dongin and pointed out, "If the government takes in more revenue just because tax receipts are higher, that does not align with the direction of region-led growth. It also reflects a lack of trust in local governments’ ability to govern themselves."
He added, "I strongly oppose the idea of using a large portion of this year’s strong tax revenue as resources for the Future Response Fund and then reallocating them."
Choo said, "When the government considers such a direction, it must consult closely with local government heads." He added, "This plan starts from the assumption that if money is sent to local governments, they may not use it for the future or to expand growth engines. Local issues are best diagnosed by local governments themselves, and that is what region-led growth is all about."
Regarding Choo Mi-ae, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who urged the government to raise the share of the local consumption tax, he said, "That is a demand shared by local leaders outside the Seoul metropolitan area, and it is also one of Lee Jae-myung’s campaign pledges."
Choo also stressed, "We cannot leave Daegu International Airport idle until the relocation of Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport is completed. We plan to actively work to revitalize Daegu International Airport."
He added, "We will further boost Daegu International Airport through financial support and links with the tourism industry. We will also actively review financial incentives by looking at cases from other local governments."
Choo also reiterated, "Airlines are not running charities, so we will create an environment that works for them. We will keep all options open and continue engaging with airlines."
