Ulsan Metropolitan City Launches Committee to Attract Second Wave of Public Institution Relocations

[Financial News, Ulsan = reporter Choi Soo-sang] The Ulsan Metropolitan City Committee to Attract the Second Wave of Public Institution Relocations was launched on the 1st.
The committee is made up of about 20 representatives from various sectors, including Mayor Kim Sang-wook, Speaker Lee Young-hae, and figures from labor, business, academia, and civic groups.
It was created to respond strategically to the government's second wave of public institution relocations and to expand citywide support for a relocation strategy that links Ulsan's industrial strengths with the functions of the institutions being considered. Going forward, it will serve as the hub for building public consensus in Ulsan, supporting outreach to the central government and political circles, and spreading momentum for the relocation campaign across the local community.
Ulsan Metropolitan City is currently focusing its efforts on attracting public institutions in three key areas: energy and power public enterprises, finance, and industrial AI transformation (AX).
In connection with existing energy public institutions, the city is seeking to bring in additional organizations such as the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) and the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority. It is also moving early to secure the headquarters of a consolidated power public enterprise as the government discusses restructuring state-run power companies.
The effort to attract the headquarters of the Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) is aimed at ensuring timely support for eco-friendly and AI transformation (AX) investments by small and mid-sized companies that form part of the industrial ecosystem alongside major firms in automobiles and shipbuilding through policy finance.
Meanwhile, the government's announcement of the final regions for the second wave of public institution relocations had been scheduled for this month, but it has been postponed until after October due to the public discussion process. The number of institutions under consideration is reportedly as high as 350.
