Jeong Jin-hyeok Takes Office as the 9th President of Korea National Railway

[Financial News] Korea National Railway announced on the 1st that Jeong Jin-hyeok has taken office as the 9th president of the organization.
At the inauguration ceremony held that day at the headquarters in Daejeon, President Jeong presented the management slogan, "Let us return to the basics and principles to become a future-oriented Korea National Railway." He also stressed that he would create "an organization that runs on systems" through management faithful to the basics and principles.
To achieve this, he outlined four key management directions: building a prevention-centered safety management system with safety as the top priority; establishing fairness and trust based on principles and procedures; strengthening field-oriented project management; and leading future mobility centered on railways.
First, Jeong said he would place safety at the top of every decision and strengthen a data-based, prevention-centered safety management system to create a railway environment where the public can feel secure.
For organizational management, he set "fairness and trust" as the core principles. He plans to apply clear principles and standards across all operations, manage decision-making processes with data, and build an organization where everyone is evaluated fairly based on performance.
He will also further strengthen "field-oriented project management." Since railway projects are directly linked to people’s mobility rights and regional development, the organization plans to build a system that fully reflects on-site feedback in decision-making so that problems can be identified and resolved quickly.
He also laid out a vision to "lead the Republic of Korea’s future mobility centered on railways." The plan includes organically connecting railways with various modes of transportation, applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), data and digital technologies across all business areas, and expanding accumulated technologies and experience overseas.
Meanwhile, Jeong is a transportation planning expert who served as a professor in the Department of Urban Planning & Engineering at Yonsei University and previously held posts including president of the Korea Transportation Association and member of the National Transportation Commission. With his expertise and experience in rail and transportation, he is expected to lead the expansion of the national rail network, strengthen the competitiveness of the rail industry, and drive the organization’s transformation and future in response to the rapidly changing mobility environment.
