Kim Dae-jung says, "The next 18 months are the golden time for the success of integrated education"

[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Hwang Tae-jong] Kim Dae-jung, superintendent of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, chaired the first monthly meeting since the merger on the 1st in the main conference room of the Jeonnam Government Complex and said that "the next 18 months are the golden time for the success of integrated education."
 According to the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, the meeting was attended by Kim Dae-jung, senior officials, staff from each division and department, and employees transferred to the main office on Sept. 1. Staff at the Gwangju Government Complex joined via a live video broadcast.
 Before the meeting began, a video showing the integration process and the steps taken since the launch of the metropolitan office was screened. The footage of Jeonnam-Gwangju employees chanting "Jeonnam-Gwangju education, fighting!" together added to the meaning of unity and integration.
 At the monthly meeting, Kim said, "With the completion of personnel appointments for general administrative staff and education professionals, the first practical step for integrated metropolitan education has begun." He added, "I ask everyone to unite their hearts and work together so that Jeonnam-Gwangju education can become a new standard for education in Korea and help realize a 'K-Education Special City.'"
 He also emphasized, "I will work to realize 'education that keeps talent local,' where local learning leads to good jobs and settlement, so that we can move away from a Seoul-centric system."
 Kim especially said, "I believe the golden time for building a K-Education Special City lasts until the end of next year." He urged everyone to gather their strength and wisdom with a sense of urgency, saying, "Depending on how we spend the next 18 months, the future of Jeonnam-Gwangju metropolitan education and the future of education in Korea will change."
