Heavy Rain of Up to 60 mm per Hour in Northern South Chungcheong Province... Meteorological Agency Says "Up to More Than 80 mm" [FN Weather]

[Financial News]  As a strong band of rain clouds developed along a stationary front passed over northern South Chungcheong Province, some areas saw torrential rain of more than 50 to 60 mm per hour on the morning of the 1st. As the rain band developed more strongly than expected, the Korean Meteorological Administration raised its forecast rainfall for northern South Chungcheong Province to 20 to 60 mm, with more than 80 mm possible in some areas.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, rain accompanied by strong gusts was falling mainly across the central region as of 10 a.m. In northern South Chungcheong Province, where heavy rain advisories are in effect, some areas were seeing very heavy rain of more than 50 mm per hour. Earlier, at 9:40 a.m., rainfall of more than 60 mm per hour, accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning, was observed in parts of northern South Chungcheong Province.
The heavy rain is expected to continue mainly in northern South Chungcheong Province until noon. Incheon and southern Gyeonggi Province may also see strong rain of around 20 mm per hour.
As the stationary front gradually moves east-northeast, rain in the Capital Region and Chungcheong region is expected to continue until the afternoon before mostly ending. In Gangwon State, rain may last until evening in some areas.
The Korean Meteorological Administration said rainfall intensity and totals will vary widely by area as very heavy rain concentrates in narrow zones. In some places, rain may repeatedly intensify and weaken, or temporarily ease.
In the southern region and on Jeju Island, showers caused by atmospheric instability rather than rain from the stationary front are expected in some areas and may continue until evening. In areas where rain or showers fall, gusts, thunder and lightning may also occur.
If heavy rain falls over a short period, water in valleys and streams can rise rapidly, and low-lying areas and underpasses may flood. The Korean Meteorological Administration urged people to avoid riverside walking paths and underpasses, and to watch for backflow from drains and stormwater pipes, flooding of farmland, landslides and falling rocks.
Daytime highs are expected to range from 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, similar to the previous day. With heat advisories in effect in parts of the southern region and on Jeju Island, the heat is expected to continue, with the perceived temperature rising to around 33 degrees Celsius.
