The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said they will launch a public participation event on the 1st, under the '100×100 Project to Discover Korea’s Attractions,' in which people visit and certify attractions selected directly by the public.
The project ultimately selected 9,883 attractions, or 6,336 after removing duplicates. To turn these places into more than just a list of tourist spots, KTO has prepared a range of participatory programs that encourage actual travel.
The 'Pro Wanderer’s Stamp Tour,' running throughout September, asks participants to visit attractions in four themed categories and submit a verification photo. Even a visit to just one attraction is enough to enter the prize draw.
During the same period, the '100×100 Phone Case Decorating' event will also be held. Participants can decorate photos of the attractions they visited using an online sticker editor and submit them. Fifty winners will be selected to receive a custom-made physical phone case.
From the 21st to the 30th, during the Chuseok holiday period, KTO will also run the 'Genie' event, which recommends attractions that match the wishes users enter.
By the end of the year, KTO plans to continue a variety of participatory events, including pet-friendly travel certification and a photo festival for 'bittersweet' moments, while recommending attractions across the country for holiday and vacation seasons.
