Ruling Party Says People Power Party's Obstruction Will Not Work, Signals Push on Legislation and Budget

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 1st that it would devote all its efforts to reviewing legislation and the budget bill as soon as the regular National Assembly session begins. It also left open the possibility of pushing ahead on its own, saying the People Power Party's obstruction will not work.
At a meeting of the party's floor leadership at the National Assembly that day, Han Byung-do said, "This regular session of the National Assembly is the golden hour for the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration and, beyond that, for a great leap forward for the Republic of Korea." He added, "Legislation, budget review and even confirmation hearings are all urgent tasks that cannot be delayed. We will make sure that livelihood-related bills are not stalled by confirmation hearings or that budget reviews are not delayed by political fighting."
Han said, "The Democratic Party of Korea will move toward its destination of working only for the people and their livelihoods, without wavering in the face of any obstruction or difficulty." He added, "We will fully activate the Standing Committees to expand housing supply, root out real estate speculation, and process legislation aimed at stabilizing prices and supporting small business owners and the self-employed."
He said, "We will also responsibly handle legislation that supports young people's jobs, housing and asset-building all the way through passage in the plenary session." He added, "We will also responsibly conduct confirmation hearings for ministerial nominees so that the new Cabinet can be quickly assembled before Chuseok and focus on state affairs."
He went on to say, "I issue a clear warning to the People Power Party. Stop distorting the facts, stop fake agitation, and stop fighting for the sake of fighting." He added, "Your sham filibusters, which hold livelihood bills hostage, and your habitual obstruction will no longer work."
Kwon Chil-seung, chair of the Policy Committee, said, "We will also do our utmost to handle next year's budget bill, which will be submitted to the National Assembly after today's State Council meeting." He added, "We will make sure it becomes a solid foundation for securing future growth engines and stabilizing people's livelihoods."
Kwon said, "There is no separate ruling party or opposition when it comes to people's livelihoods." He added, "I believe the People Power Party will also work with us so that productive discussions for the public can take place."
