[Financial News] Users are urged to exercise extra caution as the penalty for operating an unauthorized drone in a no-fly zone is being increased from an administrative fine to a fine of up to 10 million won.
According to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority on the 1st, the authority has been running a public awareness campaign on electronic billboards at Seoul Station from the 29th of last month through the 17th.
The revised Aviation Safety Act focuses on strengthening penalties for unauthorized drones flown in no-fly zones. Before the revision, violators faced an administrative fine of up to 3 million won. Starting on the 17th, they will instead face up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won.
The authority explained that it installed the electronic billboards at Seoul Station, a busy public area, to improve public understanding of the revision and prevent illegal flights.
The campaign video also explains major no-fly zones and the flight approval system in an easy-to-understand format. Major no-fly zones include central Seoul, the area around the Presidential Office and Cheong Wa Dae, areas near the Military Demarcation Line and military facilities, and areas near nuclear power plants. Drone users must check whether an area permits flights and whether flight approval is required before flying. In areas requiring approval, they must obtain it in advance.
The authority said it plans to continue public awareness efforts through cooperation with government ministries and related organizations, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), the Ministry of Education, and Korea Airports Corporation.

We urge you to check whether the area permits flights and whether flight approval is required before flying a drone, and to join us in promoting a safe drone-flying culture."
