Hyundai Rotem Company Develops Armored Ambulance, Expands Wheeled Armored Vehicle Lineup by Mission

[Financial News] Hyundai Rotem Company said on the 1st that it has developed an armored ambulance using domestic technology.
The company said it completed the armored medical evacuation vehicle system development project, which began in 2024 under the supervision of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). The entire process, from design to prototype production and testing, was carried out with domestic technology.
The armored ambulance was developed based on the Baekho command post vehicle already deployed in the South Korean military. Hyundai Rotem Company used the fact that the command post vehicle has a larger height and width than a standard wheeled armored vehicle to create space for patients and medical systems.
It can carry up to two medics and as many as six patients. If patients are on stretchers, the vehicle can carry four. It is equipped with high-brightness LED interior lights, a stretcher patient transfer device, and advanced medical equipment and supplies, including an oxygen supply system, a defibrillator, and patient monitoring devices. The Unmanned Turret-Type Counter-Drone Multilayered Defense System, which is currently under development, could also be installed in the future.
With the development of the armored ambulance, Hyundai Rotem Company’s wheeled armored vehicle lineup is expected to be strengthened, raising hopes that its competitiveness in the global market will also improve. Just as the company developed the armored ambulance based on the Baekho command post vehicle, it can also produce wheeled armored vehicles as mission-specific variants tailored to different purposes.
