Goryeong-gun Mayor Lee Nam-cheol of North Gyeongsang Province Dies While Under Treatment

[Financial News, Goryeong = Reporter Kim Jang-wook] Lee Nam-cheol, mayor of Goryeong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province, died at 12:55 a.m. on the 1st while receiving treatment for an illness, esophageal cancer. He was 67.
According to Goryeong-gun, Lee had been on a 30-day leave since the 18th of last month to receive treatment for esophageal cancer at a hospital in Seoul.
Jeong Gwang-ho, the deputy mayor serving as acting head of Goryeong-gun, said, "The funeral will be held as a county funeral for Goryeong-gun."
The funeral altar has been set up at Goryeong Daegaya Funeral Hall, and visitation will be allowed from noon on the same day.
The funeral procession will take place at 8 a.m. on the 3rd, and the farewell ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. at Goryeong County Office.
Meanwhile, Lee worked at Goryeong County Office for 41 years starting in 1979, serving as Director General for Planning and Coordination, head of the general affairs division, and chief of Daegaya-eup.
He was elected mayor of Goryeong-gun in the 2022 local elections and later won re-election.
