Ahn Ha-young Drops Out of "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" Amid Controversy Over Great-Grandfather's Pro-Japanese Past

[Financial News] Actress Ahn Ha-young, 33, will step down from the new season of the Netflix series "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" following controversy over her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese activities.
Netflix said on the 1st, "Respecting the actress's position, Ahn Ha-young has decided not to appear in the sequel to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.'"
Ahn, who played nurse Cheon Jang-mi in the trauma team in Season 1, released last year, had been set to appear in the follow-up alongside Ju Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo. However, as the recent controversy over her family history spread, she ultimately decided to leave the project.
The issue began after Ahn said on KBS2's variety show "Problem Child in House," which aired last month, that her family had been doctors for four generations. She later came under fire when her great-grandfather was identified as Ahn Sang-ho, a doctor active during the Japanese colonial period from 1872 to 1927, sparking debate over his pro-Japanese activities.
Ahn apologized, saying, "While looking into the relevant materials myself, I learned about my great-grandfather's pro-Japanese activities." She added, "I reflect on carelessly mentioning my family history without properly understanding our country's painful history during the Japanese colonial period."
She then bowed her head and said, "I take that wrongdoing seriously and sincerely apologize as a descendant."
The fallout has also spread to Ahn's upcoming projects and advertising work. She has not been able to take part actively in promotional activities for Netflix's "Our Sticky Love," and has also disappeared from some commercials.
However, the SBS drama "The Long Shot Trial" is scheduled to continue filming as planned, since production is only two days away from completion. Ahn has not withdrawn from the project so far.
SBS said it is "carefully discussing" Ahn's appearance and future scheduling, and is "coordinating from multiple angles" as it monitors the situation. With her exit from the sequel to "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" now confirmed, attention is turning to whether the controversy will affect her other projects as well.
