[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 1st that President Lee Jae-myung accepted Kim Yong-beom's resignation that day, after Kim expressed his intention to step down the previous day. He left the post about 15 months after taking office with the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
Kang Yoo-jung, Chief Presidential Spokesperson, said this at a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House on the day.
Kim is said to have decided to step down to take responsibility for recent controversies surrounding major policies and a decline in the government approval rating.
Kim had served as the control tower for the Lee Jae-myung administration's economic policy. He played a key role in designing and advancing the government's economic and real estate policies. Major examples include tax reforms such as changing the basic deduction for the Comprehensive Real Estate Holding Tax for non-resident single-home owners, the development of Yongsan Park, and the introduction of single-stock leveraged ETF products.
As controversies emerged during the policy rollout, calls for accountability for Kim grew, led by the opposition. Some in the ruling camp were also said to believe that responsible action was needed from the policy team, given the decline in the approval ratings of both the president and the party.
